Flavor Fireworks!

Southern Recipe loves the Fourth of July! There’s nothing like gathering with friends, family and neighbors to celebrate our independence. The red, white and blue BBQ is as serious to us as George Washington crossing the Delaware.

When your get-together gets going, make sure your flavors are spot on. Let’s talk pork rinds and which to feed your hungry firework-loving crowd.

Fireworks shouldn’t be the only things exploding during your Fourth of July party. Your flavors should be just as bold as a Revolutionary War solider. Southern Recipe has a rind to fit everyone’s taste.

  • The working man’s rind– Our Salt and Vinegar Pork Rind may seem Plain Jane at first but there’s something more going on below the surface. The yum is there in spades. This is more than just a utility snack; it’s a necessity that keeps America moving. Just like today’s modern worker, Salt and Vinegar Pork Rinds keep America moving.
  • Light it up– Our Hot and Spicy Pork Rinds can light the fuse on your Fourth of July food fireworks. We love these just about as much as we love freedom. Up the ante on your taste buds and wake everyone up with the Hot and Spicy boom of flavor.
  • America’s Favorite– And can we talk about our Original Rinds? These are what started it all and what the good old U.S.A. has consistently made number one year after year. They compliment a BBQ, make a great crust for grilling, and just have the snap that makes snacking fun. There’s nothing more American than our original rinds.

No matter what Southern Recipe flavor you bring to the BBQ, you’re celebrating the fourth with a true American legacy.

A Great Rind for the Great Outdoors!

camping-with-pork-rinds
We’re Americans. We love to travel. We love the outdoors. Naturally, we love camping.

It’s National Camping Month and there is no better way for Southern Recipe to celebrate than to get out to a campground and gather round the fire. And we’re not forgetting to take our pork rinds with us.

Let’s talk camp food. Yes, you have your s’mores and wieners, but why not make things better than best with easy-to-make pork rind deliciousness?

  • Not exactly skinny dipping– You almost don’t need a fire with this Warm and Creamy Bacon Dip recipe (but you probably should light something so you can cook it). Southern Recipe pork rinds are the perfect vehicle to get this goodness to your lips.
  • 3 Letters is all you need– BLT! This is a dip that the campfire just adds a nice bit of love too (and that “love” puts the “L” in this BLT). Cook this recipe at your own risk! Once everyone tastes it, you may have to make 7 more batches and never get away from the fire ring!
  • Tex-Mex it– Creamy lusciousness scooped up in a pork rind– that’s the only way we can describe this Hot Black Bean and Corn Dip. We think you may have found your new camping favorite. Seriously, it’s that good!

Get out and enjoy the great outdoors at Camp Pork Rind! Southern Recipe will be there with you!

A Tribute to the Top Hog

fathers-day-pork-rinds2
Dads are the best. It’s true. And that’s not just because a dad wrote this Southern Recipe blog.

As a tribute to our fathers, we thought we would share a few of their words of wisdom and acts of “kindness”. Kids may say and do the darnest things, but dads may have them beat!

Dad encouraged our Southern Recipe habit, but he also left us scratching our head over a few things until we found out we could Google all the answers to our questions. If you’re a dad, don’t let that stop you explaining things in your very own unique way.

Dad is never wrong, unless Mom tells us so.

  • Dad can fix it– You hear the stories or may have experienced them yourself. A washer breaks, the tub needs resealed, that tree in the yard needs to come down. Who needs a repairman or tree cutter when Dad can fix it? Uh, you probably do. Dad may know that the whatchamacallit needs connected to the whammer jammer (which is too close to the hoobie joobie), but make sure the hospital is on your speed dial. When he tells you to “run!”, run with all your might and don’t look behind you!

  • Watch what you eat– Besides your pals at Southern Recipe, Dad always know what’s good for you. That pie? Bad. You better give it to him to check. That cake? Terrible! Dad is going to have to be your taste tester. That super deluxe hamburger with everything? Yeah, that’s Dad’s too. It’s a good thing he’s watching out for you instead of his waistline.
  • The map isn’t the territory– Are we there yet? No, we aren’t. Dad’s keen sense of direction may not be as spot on as a hunting dog’s, but we may get there eventually if he would only stop for directions. But stopping isn’t an option- we’re on a one-way street in a bad part of town without stoplights. Two hours later, we’ve made it. It’s amazing how he always knows where he’s going even when he doesn’t.

Southern Recipe loves our Dads! Happy Father’s Day!!

The average life expectancy for men is 76.4 years. Heart disease is the number one killer of men, followed by cancer and respiratory disease. Lung and bronchial cancer is the number two cause of death in men, followed by Prostate Cancer. Enough of the doom and gloom, Southern Recipe wants to help with a few tips and suggestions.

  • Cut it out– High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease in men. Get a yearly physical examination and know your numbers. Men around 50 years of age should be screened for prostate cancer once a year. Hey, everyone can do something once a year, why not this?
  • Food doesn’t have to be in a pyramid– Excessive alcohol use, physical inactivity, and poor diet contribute to a decline in men’s stamina. Meanwhile, daily exercise, food moderation, and proper nutrition are essential for continued heath. Make high fiber, lower calorie and better for you food choices…and make them taste good.
  • Choose your snacks wiselyPork rinds are a healthier way to add crunch and flavor to your favorite bites. A serving of pork rinds has 0 grams of carbs, 9 grams of protein and only 5 grams of fat. Now you know what a pork rind is and the healthy side of this crunchy snack.

Guys, regular check ups along with moderation and healthy snacking will keep your ticker ticking. Southern Recipe will help you stay healthy, in a real man’s kind of way.
