Snack Like You Mean It

snack

Raise your hand if you’re just about done with all the crazy snack trends out at the local convenience store. Hey, we know you’re all about the flavor but do you really need to crunch on “anchovy and truffle” potato chips?

For National Snack Food Month, let’s review why the “everyday” pork rind stacks up to all of the other snacks on the shelf with four original flavors!

  1. Humans have been raising pigs for 15,000 years, and we’ve been enjoying the benefits from almost day one.
  2. Pork rinds are versatile. You can substitute crushed rinds with flour in a 1:1 ratio. No need for bacon topping with all this crust flavor.
  3. Pork rinds have more protein than peanuts, with 8 grams of protein in pork rinds vs. 7 grams of protein in peanuts.
  4. Pork rinds have zero carbs. Cut your carbs without sacrificing crunch.
  5. Pork rinds say no to gluten, MSG, and artificial color.
  6. There’s less than 5g of fat and 1g of sugar per serving.
  7. The fat pork rinds do have is healthy fat, most being made of the same fat you would find in olive oil.

I’ve Fallen Down on Valentine’s Day and I Can’t Get Up

Ok, the most dreaded of all the holidays is fast approaching … that’s right, we dare to utter the words, Valentine’s Day! Don’t worry guys, we’ve got you covered (you’ll thank us later, ladies). So many questions, so few answers … until now.

  1. Chocolates may be trite, but not if you show your true manly self by coating Southern Recipe Original Flavor Pork Rinds with chocolate. Nobody can resist this double trouble snack.
  2. You never, ever, never-ever ask a woman, “What do you want for Valentine’s Day?” The best present is to show that you “get her,” which means you don’t have to ask. Just listen to her, she’ll throw you a few bones. Look for comments like, “I really need a _____,” “Her necklace is so beautiful,” or “We’ve never been to that restaurant!” If she says anything like this, take the clue.
  3. You’re not 15 years old, avoid any stuffed animal holding a red heart-shaped box. In fact, bypass the entire red aisle at the local drug store.
  4. This day is not all about material things. Don’t buy the first thing you see on Amazon just because you can get it delivered the next day. No girl wants an electric razor (unless she hints, see tip #2). She’ll be more likely to let her legs go prickly in protest than use it. And no win in that one.

And remember, this day is about you and her, and about celebrating your relationship together. The most important thing is to give her your attention and show her you care, but with your own personal twist.

Super Fun For The Super Game

Super Fun For The Super GameEven if your team didn’t make it to the Super Game, you’ll want to get ready for the biggest “homegate” of the season. Here are a few tips to keep the action going for every football fan:

1. Be aware that a few attending your party may be less than thrilled “fans”. Consider setting up an alternate room for their watching pleasure or set up a gaming area. There’s nothing worse than a 2 point game and a bored pacing spouse.

2. Food keeps everyone happy. Put together a spread that’s easy to replenish. Make a balanced selection of hot and cold choices. Make it easy for your guest to pick up on the run and eat with their fingers. Try our Hot and Spicy Pork Rind Chicken Wings, warm BLT Dip and Walking Pork Rind Tacos. Plus, you’ll have an easier time cleaning up.

3. Celebrate with your own touchdown dance. Think you got the moves? Show ‘em, and you could win $2,500! It’s fun … enter for your chance to win cash and pork rind prizes.

4. Game out of hand? If the score gets out of hand, don’t give into changing the channel. Remember, some of the most entertaining and creative TV all year is the +$3 million commercials. Never, ever talk while the commercials are playing. That’s a sure fire way to get designated to the kid’s TV.

Let’s Give Thanks for Family

We’ve been around long enough to know that you don’t get between family and their traditions. And Thanksgiving traditions seem to be one of those holidays that takes no prisoners. In fact, for more than 60 years our family tradition has been to make the Thanksgiving dinner as pork rind friendly as possible!

You better not even think about making cornbread without Southern Recipe Cracklins, and the Thanksgiving stuffing better have Southern Recipe Pork Rinds mixed in or you just might have a fight on your hands.  Cracklin Cornbread recipe

Whether the holiday dinner is simple or grand, whether the gathering is small or huge, whether your football team wins or not … remember, it’s the company you keep that matters.

Get Ready For This Family Meal

It’s November. Where we immediately are reminded of that stomach expanding, belt-loosening overindulging Thursday meal. It’s a special time when we sit down with friends and family and share lively conversations about football across the dinner table. Ahhhh, that’s right it’s … National Nachos Day on November 6!

Wait, you did realize that this day rivals any other food holiday out there? Come on, there’s not that many recipes out there where you can have a complete meal all piled on one plate. Especially if you make ’em with our crunchy Southern Recipe Pork Rinds.

Why? Well, we’re glad you asked. When you skip the chip and use rinds as your base, you have a built-in scoop that’s man enough to stand up to even the meatiest of toppings. And, rind lovers, this nacho dish can be eaten with your hands, and that’s not so bad. Try our nachos and have a Happy Nachos Day!

Pork Rinds: The Other, Other White Meat

Did you know October is National Pork Month? Hey, we love celebrating meat holidays … especially ones that are near and dear to our hearts. And there’s nothing nearer to pork than our crunchy pork rinds.

Pork chop stuffed with pork rindsPork Fact: eating pork dates to 1490 B.C. when China domesticated pigs. It’s not a far stretch to think that rinds were tried about that time as well.

In honor of “Pork-tober,” let’s double down on a recipe made especially for this month: Pork Rind Stuffed Pork Chop Bombs. Take stuffing made from Southern Recipe Pork Rinds, stuff it inside a pork chop and as an extra kick, use this recipe to bread the outside of the chop with – you guessed it – pork rinds! It’s a triple treat!

Can’t Rip This Dip!

Holy moly it’s National Guacamole Day! We all know this “mean and green” dip is made from avocados, but we bet you didn’t know the avocado is actually a “berry”.

Wait, the green stuff is not making you jump up and down? Then you gotta try this guac recipe from the south … of the border. And when you use our Hot & Spicy rinds as the dipper, you’ll add an extra flavor boost.

Got a guacamole recipe to share?  Send it. If we use it, you’ll get a month of pork rinds to dip.

Hey, did you say it was National Bacon Day?

Bacon. For many, just saying the word bacon brings tears of joy. It’s no wonder there’s a special National Bacon Day (well, truth be told, every day could be “bacon day”).

From chocolate dipped bacon and Cheesy Bacon Popcorn to Bacon Banana Bread and Bacon Oatmeal, this crunchy treat can be eaten almost everywhere.

Almost. Try pulling it out of your pocket at a ball game on an 80-degree day.

That’s where we come in. Pork rinds give you that bacony flavor without all that greasy mess. And the mighty rind can be used in recipes just like our crispy cousin. Whether it’s our recipe for Pork Rind Breaded Pork Chops or a hearty BLT Dip recipe, rinds hold up just fine. Bacon can have one day, we’ll take all the rest of the days.
